Jonah Tolchin - "Thousand Mile Night"
We usually end up randomly stumbling upon Sawyer Session locations during our day-to-day travels throughout Hillsborough. After a piece about the sessions ran in the local newspaper though, the folks at Moorefields actually came to us wanting to collaborate! Built in 1785, Moorefields was originally a summer home owned by Alfred Moore, a military, educational and judicial leader from Wilmington, NC. Moore was one of the founders of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Today, the property is maintained as a wildlife refuge and acts as a popular wedding venue. They even host an annual bluegrass festival on the lawn! Once we saw the property and learned the history of the house, we knew it would be the perfect backdrop for Jonah Tolchin and his band. We set Jonah and the guys up in the formal living room, where they played a few new tunes for us from their upcoming record, including title track “Thousand Mile Night.” Thousand Mile Night will be out on Yep Roc Records in 2016! Check out Moorefields here: http://moorefields.org/
